Pride 2021
info
The Helsinki Pride 2021 event is celebrated from June 28 to July 7
A celebration of equality, the Helsinki Pride Week moves back to its traditional dates in June, the internationally recognized Pride month. Helsinki Pride is the largest cultural and human rights event in Finland. Helsinki Pride Community employees, dozens of partner organisations, and numerous volunteers work together to make the Pride Week a reality. Like in the years past, the program includes various content, such as workshops, excursions, peer meetings, lectures, and presentations.
How do I attend Helsinki Pride Week?
This year, Helsinki Pride takes a hybrid approach. This means that physical events will take place as allowed by current official recommendations. We support program organizers on various online platforms to make events accessible to those in our community that belong to vulnerable groups. In addition, we broadcast daily program on our event page. The hybrid format enables us to organize the event in the traditional June slot, various COVID-19 scenarios notwithstanding.
The online parade is available at the campaign site. Everyone can join in to demonstrate, to show their support, and to celebrate the Helsinki Pride Week. Small groups, communities, and groups of friends will make sure that Pride is seen and heard in the streets, online, and all over social media. We’ll be taking over the city throughout the week with our ongoing impact campaign.
We recognize that the Pride Parade or the Park Festival, both attracting tens of thousands of people, cannot yet be responsibly organized. Instead, the Helsinki Pride Week culminates in a concert broadcast on the Pride stream and the Yle Teema channel.
Venues and accessibility
Alive with the colours of the rainbow, our program takes place all around the city all week long. But the Pride House remains at the heart of Helsinki Pride Week. This year, Helsinki City Hall proudly serves as the Pride House.
As expected, you can find our Pride Info & Shop at the Pride House. Rainbow youth and their friends celebrate in their very own Youth Pride House at the Fredriksberg facilities in Vallila. This will be a tenth celebration of Youth Pride Week.
Unobstructed access to the Pride House takes place from the main entrance on Pohjoisesplanadi. The escort stop is located near the entrance. There is usually room for wheelchairs in front of the main entrance. The entrance is unobstructed except for the doors. The clerk will open the door upon request. The doorbell is located in the immediate vicinity of the front doors. The size of the entrance platform is at least 1.5m x 1.5m. The width of the main door is over 85 cm and the threshold is about 4 cm high. There is also a free space over 40 cm wide on the opening side of the door. The wind cabinet is 160 cm wide at its narrowest point and 210 cm longitudinally.
Sofiankatu and Katariinankatu are cobbled. The streets also have raised points and curbs. There is no ramp available on the access routes outdoors.
Pride House’s service point is located on the same floor as the entrance. The floors are not marked with guide materials. An induction loop is available at the lobby service and at the event market. Guide dogs are welcome. Materials in the space curb echo. We hope our visitors do business in the space unscented.
COVID-19 considerations
Pride is a celebration of people, and that is something you cannot cancel. You’ll have many options for joining in this year, and we hope you find the one that’s right for you!
We are staying on top of official guidelines, and we’ll communicate any changes to the event without delay.
Please celebrate Pride at home if you have flu or coronavirus symptoms. Maintain good hand hygiene by using the hand sanitizer stations available at our venues and by washing your hands. Whenever possible, please wear a mask when attending our events. Let’s all maintain social distancing with other attendees. Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
